The FAST Institute partners with WEAC to support educators statewide

Families & Schools Together is pleased to announce its first-ever partnership with the Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC). WEAC, an affiliate of the National Education Association, improves education by representing, uniting, and advocating for public schools.

During the 2021-22 and 2022-23 academic years, the FAST® Institute of Family Engagement together with WEAC’s WEA Academy is providing interactive professional development training workshops and resources to support Wisconsin educators and school staff.

Anyone can participate by registering for WEA Academy’s “Modern Strategies for Family Engagement” course, which is free for WEAC members and available to non-members for a fee. Sessions include relevant and timely topics in family engagement: creating a welcoming school climate, strengthening classroom conditions, empowering families in school, bridging inequality gaps, collaborating with the community, and more.

Families & Schools Together hosted its first in-person session in February, following several virtual sessions that began last fall semester, and a mix of virtual and in-person sessions are planned through next fall. In-person events are currently scheduled to take place in the following cities (pending COVID-19 conditions and local guidelines): Madison, Milwaukee, Eau Claire, La Crosse, and Green Bay. At this time, masks and proof of vaccination will be required.

This partnership will continue with five in-person sessions and two webinars available to WEAC members in fall 2022.

The FAST Institute of Family Engagement blends best practices in teacher training and family and community engagement to help schools create a more welcoming environment for all families; it is led by Dr. Robyn Sperling, Director of Research and Innovation at Families & Schools Together, and is based on the internationally acclaimed, evidence-based FAST® family engagement program.
